Merry Christmas from Mrs. Brown's Class
This is the first official week of Christmas season for us and we are loving every minute of it. This week our students are learning the letter R. Our theme is "R is for reindeer" and we have learned many reindeer facts! We have made reindeer books. We have also read several Reindeer books, including Rudolph. Rudolph may not have been able to play reindeer games but my students have played reindeer games and loved them! We wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Who is our Librarian?
We love library but who is our librarian?! Ms. Millwood is always changing, she is one character after another so the students never know who will be in the library each week. Each class visits the library once a week and students are able to check out one book a week.
Visit Ms. Millwood's blog at http://loventhelibrary.blogspot.com
Feast Fun!
We had an awesome week for thanksgiving in Mrs. Bearden's Class! We had our yearly feast. The children really enjoyed setting the table and sharing this special time together. I really enjoyed it too. I think it was the best one yet! It was so much fun. After the feast we all got to share a restful week with our families. Our class has so much to be thankful for and it was great to spend this time together and realize that!

The Native American Life
Children at BSLK prepared for the Thanksgiving holidays by spending a day with Native Americans who taught students about their culture. Children had the opportunity to feel and see animal pelts, dance a traditional snake dance, hear how Native Americans made and used tools and weapons, and view beautiful garments worn by Indian ancestors.

Pow Wow 2011
Children at BSLk had a wonderful day learning about Native Americans. Our Cherokee friends brought artifacts, skins and clothing to share with us. A big highlight was the snake dance in the gym! Thank you Mrs. Stone for organizing this for us and thank you Cherokee friends for sharing your time with us.

Letter Mm in Mrs. Barclift's Class
In conjunction with their Letter Mm studies, Mrs. Barclift's class was recently
visited by a "real" mail carrier and her "real" mail truck! They learned that mail begins the the letter Mm! The boys and girls were very excited to meet this special Community Helper. Her name is Adria. Lily's Mom, Tonya, is also working for the Post Office - thanks, Mrs. Tonya, for arranging this - the children learned so much from the visit!

David M. Sargent Jr.
David M. Sargent Jr. visited our school with his ‘girls’ Emma, Tatum, and Daphne along with Spike. The students were read books about the dogs in the library all week . It was a special treat to meet an author and the dogs. After his presentation to the students he visited with students who purchased his books as well as signed them, complete with a paw print stamp!

Dr. Cavannah
Recently, students in the ESL class at BSLK were studying the vocabulary related to the body and to express that something hurts them. The unit culminated with the teacher Margaret Cavannah, transforming into Dr. Cavannah right before their eyes. She donned a white smock and had a stethoscope and each child had to come into her ”office” and tell her what hurt. It was a fun activity based on reality which hopefully will lessen the students’ apprehension of necessary healthcare.

Be a Hero, Say No to Drugs!
Last week was Red Ribbon Week. We had some of our football players come read to our classes. These are just a few that came to Mrs. Armstrong's Class. Our theme was super heroes. These are the real super heroes that our kids will see in their every day life.

Fire Safety
October has been a very exciting month for Nutrition and Health. We have learned about different parts of the body and the many foods that help those parts of the body stay healthy. One of our fun days in October included visitors from The Albertville Fire Department and Sparky.

The Great Pumpkin
Wow! It’s hard to believe it has already been a full nine weeks of school already. The students in Mrs. Ables’ class have been busy learning lots of new things. We recently learned about the letter Pp and pumpkins. It was a very busy week. We measured, weighed, and investigated our pumpkins. Soon we will carve our pumpkin and roast some of the seeds. We had an extra special guest on Wednesday, October 19th when the great pumpkin (Mrs. Landers our reading coach) came for a visit! She brought a new book about the five little pumpkins for us to read! We loved it and put it into our reading center with the flannel board story about the five little pumpkins. The teachers had a surprise for Mrs. Landers later that day when she was named our 2011 teacher of the year!! Congratulations Mrs. Landers!

A REAL llama came to our school!
