Mrs. Handley's Class: Christmas Around the World

Students in Mrs. Handley’s Kindergarten class are learning about different Christmas Traditions from around the world.  They began by looking at different countries to see how children there celebrate Christmas.  Next, they look for differences and similarities from how we celebrate Christmas here in America.  So far they have talked about Christmas in England, Mexico, Italy, and Germany.  This week they are going to visit Holland, Israel, and Africa.  As they are learning, the students make a page about each country to put in their Christmas Traditions from Around the World book.  In the pictures, the students are completing the page for Germany where children get treats in their boots if they are on Santa’s nice list or switches if they are on Santa’s naughty list.  All of her students decided they wanted to be on Santa’s nice list so they could get treats instead of switches! How about you? Merry Christmas from Mrs. Handley's class to you!

BSLK Family Night

Big Spring Lake Kindergarten had Family Night on December 6th and 8th.  The BSLK gym was full of family and friends who wanted to watch their little ones shine.  The students dressed in Christmas colors and wore reindeer headbands with painted noses.  They sang several Christmas songs with motions that they learned during weekly music classes with Ms. Comer.   The students did a fantastic job and it was just the cutest Christmas program you have ever seen!

Mrs. Fann's Class: Directive Drawings

Mrs. Fann’s class at Big Spring Lake Kindergarten enjoy participating in directive drawings.  This week the students created Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer by following step by step directions given by Mrs. Fann.  This art project took several days to complete.  They began by drawing the reindeer step by step with a pencil.  Next, they traced over the pencil with a black crayon.  The next day, they painted the nose, scarf and body of the reindeer. Finally, Mrs. Fann assisted them with painting the background green. We love how these paintings turned out.  Each one is different, unique, special and beautiful, just like us!
