Mrs. Collins' Class

Mrs. Collins' class has been learning all about Thanksgiving this week.  The children participated in the Turkey in Disguise Homework Project by reading the book Turkey Trouble.  It's a story about a turkey that doesn't want to be eaten for Thanksgiving, so he disguises himself to trick the farmer.  The children and their parents worked together using any materials they had at home to disguise their turkeys.  Mrs. Collins displayed the projects in the hall for all of BSLK to see.

Ron Clark Academy

On Friday, November 4th, eight teachers from Big Spring Lake Kindergarten got to visit the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. They observed Ron Clark as well as several other amazing teachers. The Academy is comprised of approximately 130 children within Fifth through Eighth grades. These teachers had the best time learning different strategies of teaching as well as how to teach children manners and how to use them in real world experiences.  It was such an amazing experience for these teachers that they believe every educator should go if given the opportunity to visit Ron Clark!

Mrs. Cavannah's ESL classes: "Dr. Cavannah"

Mrs. Cavannah's ESL classes were learning the parts of the body recently.  Here are some pictures of Mrs. Cavannah and several of her students as they were singing a song while learning to identify the parts of the body.  While learning about the body, students needed to learn the names of individual parts in English.  They began by practicing with songs and then used a doll that had removable parts.  After lots of practice, they culminated the unit with students being able to come to "Dr. Cavannah" and tell her what hurt.

Mrs. Penney vs. Coach Whit: May the best candidate win!

Students in Mrs. Armstrong's class got to be part of an election recently to decide who would be the president of Big Spring Lake School.  The candidates were Mrs. Penney and Coach Whit.  Students created campaign posters supporting each candidate with catchy slogans and illustrations.  After each candidate gave their speech outlining the pros to electing them (and enticed students with some little treats such as footballs, stickers and pencils), it was time to vote!  Students marked their ballot and dropped it in the box.  When the results came in...Mrs. Penney won the election! Congratulations!!

Red Ribbon Week

Students at Big Spring Lake enjoyed a week of fun and learning about how to stay drug free during Red Ribbon Week!  Students dressed up each day and had a special event on Friday when the Aggie football players came to read.  Afterward, the entire school joined together outside for a balloon release as students chanted "Just Say No!"
