Students at Big Spring Lake learned about Chinese culture through Chinese New Year. Even our lunchroom go involved by having chopsticks for students to eat with and gave them fortune cookies. Thanks to our local chinese restaurants Asia Garden and Peking Buffet for providing these things! Our librarian and enrichment teachers read books to children, made kites, paper lanterns, and a 100 foot dragon. Here's a fun fact:

This week we enjoyed a unit study on penguins. We counted fish in the penguin's belly for math, listened to stories about penguins, made penguins from toilet tissue rolls, and also in our writing center wrote 3 facts about penguins. Did you know that penguins take a nap in the water? Our unit was concluded with a wrap-up on our KWL chart, writing the facts we have learned about penguins.

During Red Ribbon week we worked on balancing our bodies and incorporated that into movement activities. In the picture you will see boys and girls working together in a station to balance their body while moving across objects. We performed the activities at different speeds (Fast and Slow) to figure out which was easier to help balance themselves while crossing over the objects.
